||Evaluation of the Effect of Material Surface Texturing in the Galling and Friction of Aluminum Stamping

Aluminum forming has historically been very difficult for many reasons, such as its low formability and the big springback that suffers from. Among the different reasons, the high adhesion of the material to the forming tools has been one of the main problems.
The present work analysis the effect of the material surface roughness in the generation of galling and the coefficient of friction between aluminum alloys and grey cast iron tools. In order to do that, aluminum alloy 1050 sheets have been textured using EDM textured rolls under different rolling conditions. After, strip drawing tests at different contact pressures have been carried out and galling and the coefficient of friction have been calculated. Finally, a simulation of a component drawing has been made using the different coefficient of friction parameters, and the formability and the final geometry of the material has been evaluated.
