||Numerical Simulation of Gravity Loading and QUICKFORM Sheet Metal Forming Finite Element Solver

QUICKFORM is an efficient self-developed implicit finite element solver for sheet metal forming which will be commercial with cooperative company Engineering Technology Associates, Inc. In sheet metal forming, the sheet is obviously bent under the effect of gravity which has great impact on the material flow in subsequent processes. To simulate gravity loading with strong bending efficiently and accurately, a mixed element model of CST membrane element and DKT shell element was introduced based on the principle of virtual work. The gravity loading algorithm improved the QUICKFORM solver. Then the gravity loading and drawing process of automobile engine cover were numerically simulated, which were compared with experimental result and result by common Commercial-ware DYNAFORM. The simulations of deformation are in good agreement with the other two results, and QUICKFORM solver predicts the locations of danger points and thickness of forming part accurately, which verifies the effectiveness of the simulation model.
