Abstract Scope |
Study of material formability plays a crucial role in layout and design of any industrial forming process and further helps to enhance certain tool design processes with Finite Element (FE) analysis. Present study investigated the formability of 1 mm thick sheet of precipitate-hardenable Inconel 718 alloy by standard Nakazima test procedure at different temperatures (room temperature (RT) to 400ºC). Limiting strains were evaluated by deforming specimens in three different strain paths viz. equi-biaxial, plane and uniaxial strains. Influence of test temperatures on Formability of Inconel alloy is measured by Forming limit diagram (FLD), thickness distribution and limit dome height (LDH). Further, Marciniak–Kuczynski model (M–K) coupled with Barlat’89 anisotropic yield criteria, was proposed considering the non- homogeneity (in geometrical & structural) sheet metals for theoretical FLD calculation. Further, stress based forming limit diagram (σ-FLD) was estimated using Barlat’89 anisotropic yield criteria coupled with Swift hardening law. |
