||Fatigue Life Prediction of a Deep-drawn Cylindrical Cup

Fatigue design of structural automotive components is usually performed without taking into account the forming effects such as the thickness reduction and the residual stresses and strains distribution. However, the forming process considerably influences the fatigue life and the location of failure. In this study, final numerical stress-strain states after forming and springback are used as an input of the fatigue simulation.
First, the low cycle fatigue behavior of a dual phase steel DP600 is investigated with cyclic tension-compression tests controlled by strain to calibrate Manson Coffin Basquin’s criterion. Then, the deep-drawing of a cylindrical cup is simulated to obtain an accurate prediction of the residual stresses after forming. The effect of the forming strains on the fatigue life is considered in the criterion with four additional parameters. Finally, the loci of fatigue crack initiation is predicted using an adaptation of this modified criterion to multi-axial loads.
