Abstract Scope |
Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) has been investigating arsenic removal from copper resources, especially by mineral processing. The arsenic content in copper resources is increasing year by year as the deposits go deeper. Separating arsenic-bearing copper minerals such as enargite from copper minerals such as chalcopyrite by conventional flotation technique is usually difficult because their surface properties are very similar. Therefore, arsenic remains in copper concentrate which has a negative influence on the copper smelter operation. JOGMEC has developed new flotation techniques as well as other beneficiation techniques with industries and universities to reduce the arsenic content in copper resources. One of the developments is on the way to be applied in operating mines. The achievement of the project will be summarized in this presentation. |
