Aimed at predicting the mechanical properties from process parameters, we have developed and integrated a variety of Process-Structure-Property models. To comprehensively understand the manufacturing process, we have developed powder dynamics models to simulate the powder spreading procedure and the powder spattering and denudation phenomena, and a powder melting model incorporating the physically-informed heat source models, i.e., tracing ray deflections for laser and beam penetration for electron beam. A comprehensive phase field model has been developed to reproduce the grain evolutions, from nucleation, growth, to coarsening. A crystal plasticity model has been developed to predict the mechanical properties based on the microstructure. Moreover, the temperature profile from the powder melting model has been implemented into the crystal plasticity model to simulate the thermal stress evolution in micro-scale. These models have been validated against experimental observations showing good agreement and unique advantages in revealing the physical mechanisms. |
