||Tube Hydroforming: Material Characterization and Friction Measurement

The present paper focuses on the tube hydroforming process and methods, developed by the authors. For the hardening curve, their analytical models are compared to the Hwang’s model. Finally, the simplest model gives the best results; moreover, it is well adapted for the industry because it permits to post-process the experimental results in the same way than a classical tensile test. In addition, there is no hypothesis on the plastic criterion; the approach is applicable to any tube materials. For friction evaluation, the Orban-Hu model is used. By analysing the thickness along the perimeter of the shaped tube in a square section die, it is possible to evaluate the Coulomb’s friction coefficient, which can be different from evaluation done with the classical pin-on-disk test. Numerical simulations of tube expansion are run with these data and show good predictions on forming process and thickness repartition in the part.
