| Abstract Scope |
Spent iron-molybdate (Fe-Mo) catalysts generated during formaldehyde production represent a valuable secondary resource for molybdenum recovery. In this study, the influence of key leaching parameters, including the NH4OH-(NH4)2SO4 molar ratio and total ammonia concentration, was systematically evaluated. Among these variables, the NH4OH-(NH4)2SO4 ratio was identified as the primary factor controlling molybdenum selectivity over iron. Under optimized conditions, more than 95.8% of molybdenum was extracted with a less than 3.5% co-dissolution of iron. Dissolved iron subsequently precipitated due to the destabilization of iron-ammine complexes and was readily removed by filtration, producing an iron-depleted leachate. Non-conventional crystallization of the leached solution yielded ammonium molybdate crystals with high purity above 99%. The proposed process provides an efficient and sustainable route for recovering high-value molybdenum from spent industrial catalysts |
