Abstract Scope |
In the continuous casting tundish, liquid steel flow affects inclusion transport behaiviour. During a ladle exchange, transient flow behavior changes significantly due to variations in temperature from the ladle, flow rates, and liquid level in the tundish. In this work, a coupled multiphase model is developed to investigate turbulent fluid flow, heat transfer, inclusion transport, and slag metal interface behaiviour, in a two-strand tundish. Starting with a nonisothermal steady-state study analysis, a transient simulation during a ladle exchange is conducted in FLUENT, include level changes using the volume of fluid (VOF) model. Inclusion transport is then simulated using the discrete phase model (DPM). Results are compared with plant measurements of inclusion size, composition, and location in as-cast slabs. |
