Abstract Scope |
Post-irradiation examination of the Molten Salt Reactor Experiment (MSRE) revealed deposition of fission products on the surface of salt facing structural materials. Active material deposition on structural materials in Molten Salt Fueled Reactors possess issues for both materials control and accountancy (MC&A), and mechanical performance. Previous static FLiNaK with europium fluoride (a fuel surrogate) exposures demonstrated that europium remained inside of depleted zones after the system was drained. To better resemble in reactor conditions a pumped molten salt loop with two heat exchangers was designed by Copenhagen Atomics and used to flow FLiNaK salt with europium for hundreds of hours. The loop was examined to determine the location of fuel and fission product deposition.
This talk will discuss results from more recent static exposures as well as the behavior of surrogate fuel inside of the salt-to-salt heat exchanger as well as the salt-to-air heat exchanger during the flowing experiment. |
