Scrap LCD panels consisting of silica embedded with valuable metals i.e. indium (In), tin (Sn), and aluminium (Al), pose a critical challenge for the recycling industries. Recent studies highlight the selective leaching of EoL LCD panels for In recovery, yielding a leached residue containing Al (0.70%) and Sn (0.33%), along with silicate-rich impurities, which is often discarded, leading to the loss of these valuables. Separation of these metals is crucial for resource recovery and waste minimization. In this study, a hydrometallurgical process was developed to selectively dissolve tin from the leached residue. The optimized condition was found to be dilute HCl, higher pulp density, elevated temperature and 60 min leaching time, which promoted tin dissolution while leaving aluminium in the residue. This process provides a simple route for metal recovery from LCD waste. The developed technique will support the circular economy, resource conservation, by recycling of LCD panels. |
