| Abstract Scope |
Gallium, a critical strategic rare and dispersed metal underpinning the semiconductor industry, has seen growing market demand in recent years. However, gallium lacks independent primary deposits and is mostly associated with bauxite and zinc ores, leading to limited supply channels and intensifying supply-demand imbalance. China possesses abundant coal-based solid waste reserves, some bearing associated gallium at industrially recoverable grades. Recovering gallium from these wastes not only broadens resource supply channels but also aligns with high-value utilization of coal-based solid wastes under China’s dual carbon strategy. This review focuses on gallium extraction and separation technologies for leachates from coal-based solid wastes and systematically summarizes research progress in gallium recovery and impurity separation across three mainstream leachate systems (acidic, alkaline, and neutral), comparing their applicability, advantages and limitations. Common technical challenges and system-specific bottlenecks are identified, and future directions are proposed to guide development of efficient gallium recovery technologies from such wastes. |
