| Abstract Scope |
Waste cathode ray tube (CRT) phosphor is an underutilized secondary resource containing valuable critical metals, including zinc, europium, and yttrium. This study presents an integrated recycling process combining roasting, selective leaching, and solvent extraction for the sequential recovery of these metals. Roasting the CRT phosphor at 800 °C followed by water leaching at 80 °C enabled 98% zinc dissolution. The zinc-depleted residue was subsequently leached with hydrochloric acid, achieving near-complete dissolution of europium, and yttrium. The resulting leachate was processed by solvent extraction using an organophosphorus extractant to selectively separate europium and yttrium. Extraction stoichiometry and process parameters were systematically investigated to optimize rare-earth separation. The proposed process provides an efficient and selective route for recovering critical metals from end-of-life CRT phosphor and demonstrates the potential of legacy electronic waste as a sustainable secondary resource. |
