Abstract Scope |
Aluminum thin-walled structures are of great importance in the automotive industry, especially in electric vehicles. Thin-walled extruded components have been used by automotive designers, taking into account lightness considerations. Thin-walled components are generally used as structural components and are of great importance. Therefore, their mechanical behavior should be well studied.
In this study, an aluminum extruded thin-walled component was subjected to the three-point bending test. The obtained results were compared with the results of the finite element study. A damage model was applied to simulate the mechanical behavior of the test material. The findings suggest that the FE method provides an accurate prediction of the mechanical behavior of the thin-walled structure and the FEA model can be a reliable tool to predict the behavior of similar structures in engineering applications. |
