Abstract Scope |
Refractory multicomponent alloys with BCC/B2 microstructures are promising alternatives to Ni-based superalloys. Given the wide compositional range, a critical question is whether the B2 phase can form among refractory metals. Using first-principles calculations and our newly developed Multi-Cell Monte Carlo method, we narrow down the compositional possibilities and identify stable B2 structures between Ta, Nb, V, and Re, as well as Ti, Zr, Hf, and Ru. Using two of the identified compositions as examples, we examine the deformation mechanisms in these systems and discuss the implications for the mechanical behavior of these potential refractory alloys with a BCC/B2 microstructure. |
