| Abstract Scope |
The industrial scrap alloy turnings generated during aberration of bearings are a great potential secondary resource for metals. These turnings are dumped or cheaply sold leading to a significant resource loss. A hydrometallurgical flowsheet was developed for efficient separation of Al and Sn. Various parameters like effect of leachant, pulp density, time, leachant concentration and temperature were investigated. 99.99% Al was selectively dissolved using dilute caustic soda solution at elevated temperature within 1 hour, further precipitation process was used to precipitate aluminium hydroxide (Al(OH)3) at suitable pH. Sn enriched in the leached residue was then hydrolyzed as tin hydroxide (SnO2) using an oxidative reagent. The purity of Al and Sn salts were found to be >99% showing the efficient separation and purification of these valuables. This process has a potential to be commercialized, and will help in recovery of value-added products from waste streams promoting circular economy. |
