Abstract Scope |
Tube spinning is the effective method to produce chipless, seamless, thin walled and axially symmetrical metal tubes. Due to the inhomogeneous nature of the elasto-plastic deformation, residual stresses are developed during the tube spinning process. Residual stress state after the forming process is directly related with fatigue life, distortion, dimensional stability, corrosion resistance and fracture depending on the distribution along the part. Therefore, to improve service life it is important to know the residual stress characteristics when designing tube spinning process. In this study, the effect of different process parameters on the residual stresses have been studied using the slitting method, which is a mechanical relaxation technique using strain gauges. The results indicate that tube spinning parameters have a strong influence on the residual stress state of the part. |
