Abstract Scope |
Friction welding processes require high loads and temperatures to create bonds. This makes the equipment costly and degrades material properties. Using powder in the interface between the two parts being joined could aid in bonding because powder densification provides the opportunity to reduce joining loads and temperatures. In this work, rotary friction welding with powder at the bonding interface was used to join components. The effect of using metal powder was quantified by comparing the properties and process parameters of bonds made with powder with welds produced with conventional rotary friction welding. |
