Abstract Scope |
Optimization of forging process models help to identify ideal preform design, avoid underfill and folds, minimize load requirements, die stresses and die wear. Parametric sensitivity analysis enables systematic analysis of the variabilities associated with the forging processing conditions, boundary conditions, material properties on the desired process outcomes such as load requirements, strain distribution, die stresses and die tool wear. In this presentation, we will demonstrate integration of CAD system with DEFORM process modeling software for identifying optimum preform design for a near net shape forging of a gear part. Application of enhanced die wear models along with the capability to update die geometry will be demonstrated. Further fine tuning of die wear model parameters using measured die wear can be achieved through the application of inverse methods. Combing DEFORM DOE sensitivity analysis and optimization methods, reduced die stresses and die wear for the optimal gear forging process will be demonstrated. |
