Abstract Scope |
Advanced metallic materials can expand engineering design space, provided that their extreme strength is reliable. Non-destructively identifying problematic outliers in performance for these materials can be difficult, as some strength variations are benign and may vary in magnitude by material. To better support the rapid certification of these advanced materials, a connection between experimental indentation testing and microstructure sensitive modeling (using crystal plasticity finite element method) is examined. PRISMS-Indentation is employed to explore the strength variability of Al 7075 in indentation testing. This variability is compared to experimental data on the same material. Paths to data-driven reduced order methods of the indentation test simulation are discussed. |
