Abstract Scope |
Nowadays, the microsystems market is expanding in many domains. Both academia and industry have the consensus that micromachining offers promising performance especially in terms of precision and cost. In these processes, the cutting tool is subjected to extreme solicitations due to its size compared to the cutting area. The cutting process is also very sensitive to the microstructure. Authors have observed fluctuation of the cutting forces induced by the variation of the crystallographic orientation, coupled with extreme tribological conditions. At this scale, it is difficult to capture the physical fields involved in the cutting process experimentally. Thus, numerical simulation and tribological experiments can be the solution to understand these phenomena.
In this work, an experimental study has been carried out to evaluate the tribological and mechanical properties of a single crystal of copper and aluminum different conditions. The results of these tests were used to implement a numerical friction model. |
