Abstract Scope |
In the past, toolmaking was able to differentiate itself from the global market by innovation and new technological solutions only, but today it must additionally distinguish itself from the market by increasing efficiency in manufacturing and reducing production costs. Toolmaking companies often have limited number of machines, which should be used at maximum capacity to improve productivity. The heterogeneous use of different manufacturing technologies generates a high planning and scheduling effort in the single-part production. One possible approach to exploit this potential lies in the implementation of adaptive manufacturing, so that in the event of disturbances, a rescheduling across technologies becomes feasible. The developed method describes the influence of different manufacturing technologies based on the workpiece characteristics. The method is demonstrated by comparing conventional and non-conventional technologies such as milling, sink EDM and wire EDM. |
