||Modelling of Al-Mg-Cu light cast alloys behaviors via Finite Element methods with correlation of bifilm index and Xray Studies

Metal oxides are the key defects that cause failure of Aluminum alloys due to low melt quality in casting. Determination of metal oxide films are done by reduced pressure tests and bi-film index evaluations. Traditional FE methods did not incorporate the effect of index correlation with mechanical behavior of the alloys.
In the study, comparison of continuum mechanic based and geometry based bi-film incorporation of defects into the FE model will be given.
Afterwards, various level of bi-film index valued alloys will be cast into specimen molds. The reduced pressure tests and X-ray tomography evaluations will be performed to identify the correlation of bi-film index with the tensile tests and compression test results. Correlation of bi-film index with mechanical tests will be done and FE models will be calibrated for more accurate simulation of the behavior. Resulting mechanical behavior will be incorporated into Finite Element models in continuum mechanics approach.
