Light alloys plays important role in lightweight design of components. Mechanical performance of the alloys is is crucial to predict the behavior. In casting process, Bi-film index based of metal oxide film formation and porosity levels must be assessed with precision. In the study, correlation of bi-film levels and their correlation with mechanical performance of the alloy has been done via reduced pressure tests and Xray tomography evaluations.
For different level of bi-films and porosity at various degassing times, assessment of hardness, strength and mechanical behaviors have been evaluated. Correlation of the mechanical performance with different bi-film index values has been built. A melt quality - mechanical performance criteria will be proposed for part designs.
