Abstract Scope |
Retained austenite in a quenched-and-partitioned steel can transform to martensite during plastic deformation. Such a microstructure evolution characteristic, on the one hand, leads to unique strain rate dependent damage and failure behavior of this material, yet on the other hand challenges conventional finite element models for automotive applications, such as forming and crashworthiness. In this work, the target material will be experimentally characterized respectively in a wide range of quasi-isothermal conditions, at different nominal strain rates, and under various stress states. The extracted material properties from the experiments will then be implemented in a damage and failure model, which eventually will be validated via a comparison between finite element simulation and component testing results. |
