Abstract Scope |
The scientific importance of MAX Phase reinforced into metal matrix is being increased due to their improved properties. Ti3AlC2 MAX Phase was reinforced into AA1050 matrix to produce aluminum metal matrix composite (AMMC), which is widely used in aviation industry. The microstructure evaluation and morphological studies were carried out through XRD, SEM and EDX analysis. In X-ray diffraction Ti3AlC2 peaks were observed, no intermetallics were detected. The SEM images revealed a relatively uniform distribution of Ti3AlC2 particles into Al-matrix. Micro-indentation tests were performed to measure Young’s modulus and micro-hardness on matrix, particle and interface. The micro-indentation results exhibit that the variations of Young’s modulus and microhardness at particle, matrix and interface were highly dependent on the loading conditions (maximum load and loading speed) and microstructure. The results shows that the mechanical properties of AMMC are closely and regularly related to its microstructural composition and morphology. |
