Abstract Scope |
Recent development in additive manufacturing promoted tremendous innovation opportunities in defense sectors, supporting development of new materials and structures that withhold extreme conditions, and fabrication of autonomous systems embedded with 3D printed sensors and lightweight and smart materials, powered by advance AI algorithms. Fully capturing these innovation opportunities calls for a collaborative effort to expose, educate and engage next generations learners at different levels. This talk introduces I-DREAM4D, a DoD Consortium for Innovation Driven Research/Education Ecosystem for Advanced Manufacturing for the Defense, which is created with a goal to prepare young people who are ready to lead the innovation process for US military and defense manufacturing operations. With participation of 5 universities, more than 10 defense manufacturing industry members, 2 defense labs, and one national research center, this consortium provides a platform to solve the talent gap deemed as one of the most challenging issues for US Manufacturing. |
