Abstract Scope |
In this paper, the ductile fracture behavior at micro/meso-scale in ultrafine-grained pure copper were analyzed by in/ex-situ tensile testing methods. The surface cracks evolutions were clearly observed by in-situ SEM and the inner voids in tensile specimens at two different plastic deformation stages were realized using synchrotron radiation X-ray tomography. It is found that the surface cracks evolution has a strong relationship with the shear strain when the flow stress decreases after the peak in the UFG pure copper. Both the distribution and shapes of voids are affected by the strain localization This work provides a well-rounded exploration of plasticity and fracture in UFG scale, and serves as a physically motivated basis for the development of fracture and failure of metal polycrystals in micro-forming process. |
