Abstract Scope |
Based on finite element analysis and experimental studies, the effect of width-to-thickness ratio of product on the quality of welding properties of AA6063 during continuous extrusion with double billets was studied. The results indicated that when the width-to-thickness ratio increased from 10 to 40, the grain size of the structure around the weld seam decreased from 400 μm to 100 μm, and it was gradually approaching to the matrix grains. The results of tensile test show that the tensile strength and the elongation increased accordingly. The fracture position of sample changed from weld seam to base metal. The simulation results were in agreement with the experimental results. With the increase of width-to-thickness ratio, the calculated welding criteria K value increased greatly, which is influenced by the increased temperature and welding pressure. Increasing ratio of width to thickness of product is beneficial to increase the performance of the weld. |
