Presentation Title Impact of ingot size on rolling ingot metallurgy

Abstract Scope Due to the increasing demand for aluminum alloys, aluminum manufactures are forced to increase their productivity. As a result, the cast house in downstream industries needs more enormous ingots to meet the productivity target. But casting large size ingots reduces the recovery rate due to casting complexity and metallurgy. Hence it is essential to understand microstructural formation during ingot casting to improve the metallurgy. This study shows the influence of ingot size on the segregation, porosity, and microstructure of an aluminum alloy. The microstructure through the ingot thickness has been characterized using various microscopes, differential scanning calorimeter, and X-ray diffractometer. Finally, the results are rationalized in terms of ingot size.
