Abstract Scope |
Special cold roll bonding (CRB) technique for fabrication of Al-Steel layered composites was developed. This technique consisted of two rolling passes at room temperature. During the first pass, CRB was performed with two work rolls. The first work roll had a smooth surface that was in contact with the soft aluminum layer of the composite, and the second work roll had a surface with microscopic sinusoidal profile that was in contact with the hard steel layer of the composite. During the second pass the CRB was performed by two identical smooth work rolls. As a result, the Al-Steel layered composite with wavy interface was obtained. Simulations of the CRB process were carried out using the FEM code QForm. It was shown that developed CRB technique is able to introduce an additional mechanical clinching and elevated plastic strain to the interface of the composite in comparison with conventional CRB process. |
