Abstract Scope |
The effects of pulse current on the microstructure and mechanical properties of two kinds of ultra-high strength steels (UHSS, MS1300 and QP980) were studied by electrically-assisted uniaxial tensile tests. The elongation of the two UHSS moderately increases at relatively low effective current density while their microstructures almost keep unchanged. MS1300 steel at a current density of 8.58 A/mm2, the elongation can reach to 12.4%. The tensile strength of QP980 decreases to 900MPa at 10.46A/mm2 while its elongation increases to 38.4%. If the current density is further increased, the elongation of UHSS can be remarkably improved. However, the tensile strengths are greatly reduced, and their microstructures are also obviously varied. Therefore, the current density is appropriately selected in order to maintain the UHSS grades. |
