The question if our industry is less safe than it was a decade ago in terms of molten metal explosion has been widely debated in the aluminum industry. The failure of companies reporting explosions to the Molten Metal Incident Reporting System is very bad, and results in some believing this hazard has been declining. My poster presentation addresses the issue of recent molten metal explosions with special attention to the causes. Specifically, in my poster, I will be looking at recent catastrophes that many outside of the country of origin have been oblivious to. I argue that our industry is not experiencing less molten metal explosions but more are becoming publicized that previously remained unknown. In conclusion this poster project, by closing examining recent large explosions will bring awareness to this hazard and hopefully prevent recurrence of the incidents highlighted.
