Abstract Scope |
While solid titanium construction is the most reliable way to use titanium metal and alloys in chemical industries, there are applications like lining of existing towers, tube sheets, Lining can be accomplished by Explosive welding of titanium sheet (usually Grade 1 or Grade 11 for their better ductility)
These clad plates are fabricated in a conventional rolling and stamping way, except the weld areas are stripped of the titanium liner to allow lining of the carbon steels.
The second method involves loose lining with thin sheet which may be retained by various mechanical means including friction and bolts.
At today’s costs, solid titanium construction beats explosive clad construction up to ¾ to 1 inch in wall thickness, so lining is generally limited to either very large vessels .Still explosive cladding fabrication mechanism has the advantage from both mechanical strength, corrosive resistance and cost saving. |
