Abstract Scope |
Coarse grains generated after solution-aging heat treatment in 6082 aluminum alloy would degrade the fatigue properties and impact toughness of the forgings. However, the effect of deformation parameters on grain size is rarely mentioned during deformation-solution-aging process. The hot compression experiments of an extruded 6082 aluminum alloy bar at different temperatures and strain rates were carried out as well as the subsequent solution and aging heat treatments. Electron backscatter diffraction technology was employed to observe and measure grain structure and substructure. The results show that the samples deformed at low temperature and high strain rate are prone to generate coarse grains, and the maximum grain size is even more than 1 mm. Strong texture and high deformation energy storage are considered to contribute to the abnormal grain growth. This study is of great significance for optimizing the forming process parameters and obtaining fine grains of 6082 aluminum alloy parts. |
