Abstract Scope |
A portion of a tube has been thickened to improve the strength and rigidity of a hollow light-weight construction. Buckling is a major problem in the compression of the tube in the axial direction. The tube has been thickened with buckling using a conventional container with a small clearance. After some trials and specific observations, the 25t0-long tube was thickened without buckling using a container without a clearance, where t0 is the initial thickness of the tube. It was found by FEM analysis that the plain strain at the outside of the tube induces the limitative metal flow in the inner radial direction. |
