Abstract Scope |
With the development of automotive industry, light-weight Al/Fe multi-material vehicle body is getting more and more popular. Hence Al/Fe joining technology attracts more attention. Impact welding forms metallurgical bonds in the solid-state, in which the wave formation and intermetallic compounds (IMC)distribution of joint interface are important factors affecting the strength of welded joints. In this paper, the wave characters and the temperature distribution in the Al/Steel impact spot welding interface were simulated by the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method. The effects of processing parameters, i.e. impact velocity and impact angle, workpiece thickness, and tools dimension were investigated. Combined with the formation conditions, the distribution of Al/Fe IMC in the interface was predicted. |
