Over the past few years, the production of composite materials reinforced with natural fibers, has aroused great interest in researchers and industries. Fibers can be found easily in nature, and in particularly in the Amazon region, the Guaruman (Ischinosiphon arouma) is a species abundant this region. Thus, the aim of this work is evaluate the flexural strength of epoxy matrix composites with guaruman fiber reinforcement. The composites were produced with incorporation of 10, 20 and 30vol% of fiber. The mechanical properties of the composites were evaluated in flexion according to the ASTM D 790 standard, and the fracture region as analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results obtained showed that the incorporation of guaruman fibers in an epoxy matrix did not significantly alter the resistance module, and the fracture region analysis of the composites showed an indicative of fragile fracture.
