Abstract Scope |
In the tube hydroforming process, a depression defect caused by die bending process is commonly encountered. In order to examine the depression, a die bending model was constructed first to analyze the deformation mechanisms. The depression defect occurred in manufacturing a rear sub-frame beam was then investigated with the use of the finite element simulations. The tube-hydroforming process for manufacturing the rear sub-frame beam includes tube die bending and hydroforming. In order to conform the simulation to the real production condition, the same tube bending die design was adopted in the finite element simulations. This paper not only controls the depressions of the bent tube, but also optimizes the height of the down holder in the bending die to improve the depression phenomenon in manufacturing a rear sub-frame beam. The research results of this study could be valuable references in developing the tube-hydroforming process for manufacturing a rear sub-frame beam. |
