Abstract Scope |
In the present study, the effect of implementing a nozzle with torsion channels during the bottom stirring operation in ladle furnace was analyzed, since this operations plays an important role in the chemical and thermal homogenization of the bath during secondary refining. The numerical model is comprised of a multiphasic steel-slag-argon-air system under non-isothermal conditions determining the heat flux through the walls using Fourier's law for a composite wall. The Volume of Fluid (VOF) model was employed to simulate the tracking among the phases. The results show the implementation of torsion channels in the nozzle improves the flow distribution within the system, reducing low-velocity zones at the bottom of the ladle and promoting the recirculation of the liquid steel. However, significant wear was detected on the refractory walls. |
