Meeting 2025 TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition
Symposium Aluminum Primary Processing - Decarbonization and Sustainability in Aluminum Primary Processing: Joint Session of Aluminum Reduction, Electrode Technology, and REWAS 2025
Presentation Title Inert Anode Aluminum Cells – Present Status and Future Prospects
Author(s) Halvor Kvande
On-Site Speaker (Planned) Halvor Kvande
Abstract Scope The aluminum industry seems to be gaining some serious momentum on inert anodes. However, most of the recent information on inert anode cells comes in the form of media releases, which are meant for the public and contain very little technical data. Several of the players target commercialization of their inert anode cells in 2030. The paper is compares the publicly available information and draws some inferences from this information. The present status for inert anode cells is described and future prospects are discussed.
