Abstract Scope Directed energy deposition additive manufacturing with oxygen-rich welding gas is currently being explored to more reliably and cheaply produce radiation resistant oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steel components while maintaining a high number density of precipitates. While preliminary results are promising, much of the oxygen absorbed by the weld pool is lost to the formation of agglomerates and thereby hinders the number density of precipitates. It is predicted from computational modeling that adding Ti and Si will inhibit agglomeration and thereby promote increased precipitate number density. In this work, a comparison is made for Fe-12Cr-6Al-2Mo-0.2Y printed in oxygen-rich gas with and without TiC and SiC additions to the feed powder. Both sets of samples were irradiated with 8 MeV Fe ions at 300-600C up to 10 dpa and characterized using TEM before and after irradiation to measure precipitate densities and size distribution as well as their overall radiation resistance.
