Abstract Scope Linepipe for application in hydrogen sulfide environments has long been cladded with solid solution strengthened nickel base superalloys. Most commonly mechanical cladding is used, but the resulting product is subject to buckling in high bending applications. Where fully metallurgically attached liners are required, fusion processes are generally used, with resulting low productivity as well as poor nickel yield. Resistance seam cladding has been developed at EWI as an alternative method for creating such fully bonded clads. This paper will provide a basic description of the process, and examples of clads from 1-mm to 3-mm in thickness. These examples are supported with metallographic inspection and mechanical shear testing of resulting joints.
