Abstract Scope |
Tristructural Isotropic (TRISO) coated particle fuel technology has been re-established in the US over the last 20 years though the DOE Advanced Gas Reactor Fuel Development and Qualification (AGR) Program. The program has worked to demonstrate uranium oxide, uranium carbide (UCO) fuel performance over a broad range of operating conditions generally associated with high temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGRs). The successes of the AGR program have led to momentum in private sector and government advanced reactor concepts utilizing TRISO fuel technology. An overview of the status of TRISO fuel development in the US will be presented along with commentary on how TRISO fuel is being adopted and adapted for reactor technologies beyond HTGRs. |
