Abstract Scope The 3D geometry of magnetic nanostructures has been found to have a direct impact on their magnetic configurations and magnetization properties, due to spatial coordinates, which sheds new light on next-generation nanomagnetic materials for advanced magnetic nanosensors and actuators towards energy harvesting applications. Our work presents novel synthesis pathways for the assembly of multifunctional 3D magnetic nanostructures composed of magnetic metal oxides nanoparticles for the design of magnetic device platforms. Specifically, synthesized 3D nanostructures with different shapes/sizes were integrated with bio-engineered piezoelectric commodity polymers for fabricating highly efficient magneto-piezoelectric nanogenerator device which can convert ambient stray magnetic noise to electricity via a magneto-mechano-electric coupling effect. It was found that the 3D nanomagnetic structures could enhanced the energy product (BH)max of the materials from 50 kJ·m/3 to 165 kJ·m/3 which demonstrates the promising deployability and high performance of 3D magnetic nanostructures for fabricating nanotechnology-driven energy devices and actuators.
