||High Entropy Alloys for Tribological Application Elaborated by Laser Direct Metal Deposition

High Entropy Alloys (HEAs) research is a good opportunity for designing brand new cobalt free hardfacing materials coatings for wear resistance.
To develop them, the proposed methodology is to combine the Laser Metal Deposition process (LMD) and CALPHAD thermodynamically simulations. LMD gives the ability to build graded composition structures and a fast and combinatorial metallurgy approach. After a first group of elements is chosen based on targeted applications, some candidate alloys are selected. From the results of the simulations, several HEA composed of Fe, Ni, Cr, Mo, Ti, and V are elaborated by LMD. The microstructures are identified and compared with the CALPHAD simulation results. Pin on disk test are conducted to study the tribological behaviour of the alloys and wear mechanisms are proposed. The study of promising alloys is more precisely detailed in the presentation.
