Availability of right material data is key to successful product development. Conventionally material data is managed in silos and considerable time is needed to extract right insights from available data. With structured database one can get right insights, which enable intelligent material selection and material development aligned with conflicting product requirements. In this process often engineers encounter challenges with availability of specific properties, which can be overcome with open source published data.
Current study demonstrates the use of python libraries for data scraping from authentic published sources, automatically curate it on customized material database and integrate it further for performance simulation. It helped to reduce the manual time spent in material search, extraction and curation by around 70%. These libraries are customizable and scalable for different material classes, which could be pushed automatically for property updates with a set frequency to integrate it with product engineering specifications and standards.
