Abstract Scope |
In recent years, the demand for developing Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSSs) has increased to improve ductility, emissions and passenger safety while being economical. The development of third generation AHSSs aims to enhance strength and tensile formability. To do so, it is necessary to understand the microstructures within the alloy. However, differences in the microstructures of Si and Al slabs are still unknown and the question of the microstructure's influence on the alloys' properties remains. This study investigates the differences in the Si, Al and combined Si and Al effects on the microstructures of as-cast slabs with 0.2 wt.%C and various Mn concentration along with the difference in grain sizes at room and high temperatures. The results can be used as a starting point to further understand the mechanisms of Si and Al on crack propagation involving differences in microstructures, hardness and grain sizes of the as-cast slabs. |
