Abstract Scope |
As part of our research into biodegradable materials, we have produced complex composed casting foams from a zinc alloy alloyed with 1.5 wt.% Mg, whereby the complex internal macrostructure was created by a salt core of NaCl.
Complex gravity casting with 3D centrifugal casting on a vibrating table and centrifugal casting was used to fill the casting cavity. In the first phase, the salt granulate was sintered in a prepared quartz tube, then the molten alloy was poured into the instrumented casting cavity.
We succeeded in producing the composed casting foams with a large specific surface area. Numerical simulations of the casting process were carried out to develop the casting technique and for optimisation.
The complete characterisation of the metallic foam structures was carried out at macro and micro level using computer tomography (CT), optical and electron microscopy (SEM, EDS), chemical analyses and simultaneous thermal analyses (STA). |
