Abstract Scope |
For efficient remelting of scraps with different degrees and kinds of contamination the process step of thermal decoating/delaquering prior to melting is well-known to reduce the metal loss by oxidation/dross formation. Internal post-combustion further reduces the energy consumption for the process. For practical applications in cast houses and meltshops there are yet more aspects to consider when making the selection of a new furnace type, e.g. decarbonisation.
In this presentation we will introduce modern furnace concepts for Single Chamber and TwinChamber© designs with integrated decoating process step.
The implementation and usage characteristics as well as operational experiences for each design will be explained. Typical charge compositions with a high share of scraps result in a very low CO2 footprint of the melt while the loss of metal due to oxidation is very low.
A short view into the future of the remelting and recycling furnace technology concludes the presentation. |
